How SEO Migration Studio works: time zones, contracts and site access

We work remotely from Pakistan for businesses in the US and the UK, on UTC+5 all year: 4 or 5 hours ahead of London and 9 or 10 ahead of New York.

Pakistan time against London, New York and Los Angeles

Pakistan Standard Time (PKT) is UTC+5 all year: the IANA time zone database lists no clock change in Pakistan since November 20091. The gap between PKT and your office moves only when UK or US clocks change.

Bar chart of the hours London, New York and Los Angeles are behind Pakistan Standard Time: London 5 on GMT and 4 on British Summer Time, New York 10 and 9, Los Angeles 13 and 12

London is on GMT (UTC+0) in winter2 and on British Summer Time, one hour ahead, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October3. New York is on UTC−5 and Los Angeles on UTC−8 in winter4, each one hour ahead on daylight saving time from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November5. The two countries change their clocks on different Sundays, so the year has four periods.

Period, each year London New York Los Angeles
Last Sunday in March to last Sunday in October 4 hours behind PKT 9 hours behind PKT 12 hours behind PKT
Last Sunday in October to first Sunday in November 5 hours behind PKT 9 hours behind PKT 12 hours behind PKT
First Sunday in November to second Sunday in March 5 hours behind PKT 10 hours behind PKT 13 hours behind PKT
Second Sunday in March to last Sunday in March 5 hours behind PKT 9 hours behind PKT 12 hours behind PKT

A 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. office day falls at these times in Pakistan:

  • London: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. PKT on British Summer Time, 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. PKT on GMT.
  • New York: 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. PKT on daylight saving time, 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. PKT on standard time.
  • Los Angeles: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. PKT on daylight saving time, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. PKT on standard time.

UK office hours overlap the Pakistan afternoon and evening; US office hours fall in the Pakistan evening and night. Call times for each project are agreed by email, inside these overlaps.

Launch windows across the time difference

A launch is the moment the new site answers on your live domain, and its window is agreed with you in advance.

Google’s site-move guide advises timing a move for lower traffic where possible, because then “fewer people will be affected by potential issues that can happen during the site move”6. Your analytics show your site’s quietest hours. When they fall overnight in the US or early in the morning in the UK, the time difference puts them in the Pakistan day:

  1. Overnight in New York, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. ET, is 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. PKT on daylight saving time and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PKT on standard time.
  2. Overnight in Los Angeles, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. PT, is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. PKT on daylight saving time and noon to 6 p.m. PKT on standard time.
  3. Early morning in the UK, 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., is 9 a.m. to noon PKT on British Summer Time and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. PKT on GMT.

Packages that include the Launch Check run launch QA inside the agreed window: robots.txt, noindex tags, canonical tags, redirects, sitemaps, Google Search Console and analytics. Launch day is phase 4 of the project process, between the staging crawl and the day-7 and day-30 crawls.

This website A static Astro build on Vercel rather than WordPress, so each production deploy first runs an automated check of the built pages (links, canonical tags, the sitemap) and stops if one fails. End-to-end projects are built in WordPress.

A partner agency works under the white-label terms for agencies, which set out partner rates and whose name goes on the reports.

Site logins and customer data

WordPress access works per user. Its Users screen lets a site owner add, change or delete users, and each user’s role sets what that account can do7. Access for this work can therefore be a separate account that you create, limit to the job and delete when the work ends, so your own password never changes hands.

Customer data on the site, such as orders or form entries, can bring the UK’s international transfer rules into play. The Information Commissioner’s Office says those rules apply when the UK GDPR covers your processing and you “send (or make accessible) personal information” to a separate organization outside the UK, and that the business initiating the transfer is responsible for complying8.

The privacy policy covers what this site does with the details you send in a quote request.

Frequently asked questions

Where are you based and when are you online?

We work remotely from Pakistan for businesses in the US and the UK, on Pakistan Standard Time (UTC+5), which has no daylight saving. London is 4 or 5 hours behind and New York 9 or 10, so a UK office day falls in our afternoon and evening and a US office day in our evening and night. Call times for each project are agreed by email.

How do you handle access to our site and customer data?

WordPress lets you add a separate user account for us, with the role the work needs, and delete it when the work ends, so your own password stays with you. We do the build and the SEO work in-house; nothing is subcontracted without your written OK. If the work touches customer data, such as orders or form entries, what we access is agreed in writing before the work starts.

Who is the contract with, and which payment methods do you accept?

The contract is with SEO Migration Studio, the trading name we work under from Pakistan. Every package is priced in US dollars and pounds sterling; your quote names the invoice currency and the payment methods for it, and the price list shows when each payment falls due.

Do we own the site and the redirect files?

The design, code, content and redirect files are yours on full payment. Where the work includes a redirect map, we hand it over as a CSV file and as a redirect import file for your server or redirect plugin, so another developer or host can apply it later.

How many projects do you take on at once?

We take on at most 1 new relaunch project a month. For SEO-only launches, where your developer builds the site: We take on at most 1 new SEO-only launch a month. For traffic-drop diagnoses: We take on at most 1 new diagnosis a week. To check the next start date, send your launch date with a quote request.
