Website migration cost: published prices by provider type

The short answer

Website migration cost depends on which job you are buying: the file move, which some hosts include with a hosting plan; rebuilding the site on a new platform; the SEO work on changed URLs, priced by size; or recovery after a failed launch. The dated tables below show each published price by provider type, with its source.

Bar chart of eight US-dollar migration prices as published on 8 October 2026: two host moves at the low end, a move into WordPress, four SEO-work prices that rise with scope, and a post-launch recovery price.
Built from the dated price tables below: eight US-dollar prices, each as its provider published it on 8 October 2026. The UK providers' prices in pounds appear in the tables only.

Prices last checked: 8 October 2026.

Host moves are free with some hosting plans1, and one host charges $99 to move a site that is not built on WordPress3. Rebuilding a site in WordPress starts from $499 at one agency5. The SEO work on changed URLs runs from $499 for a domain change7 to $20,000–$50,000+ for enterprise migrations16, and recovery after a failed launch starts from $1,5009.

If your business site is changing host, platform, domain or URL structure, the quotes you collect can price very different jobs under the one word “migration”. The tables below keep those jobs apart, so a host’s included move is never weighed against an agency’s SEO project as if both bought the same work.

Website migration cost by provider type

Website migration cost splits into four jobs that providers price separately: moving the files, rebuilding the site on a new platform, the SEO work that maps each changed URL to a new page with a 301 redirect, and recovery when a launch goes wrong. Each row gives the provider type, what the price covers, the size or unit it applies to and the figure exactly as published, with a numbered link to its source. SEO Migration Studio’s own fixed prices are kept out of these tables and listed on SEO Migration Studio’s price list.

Moving the files to a new host

A host move copies the site’s files and database onto new servers. When every URL stays the same, it is the lowest-priced of the four jobs, and some hosts include it with a hosting plan.

Provider type What the price covers Size or unit Published price
Web host (WordPress hosting) Moving existing WordPress sites onto its servers Unlimited sites, for its hosting customers Free1
Web host Moving a WordPress or other site from another provider; each plan on its page includes it Unlimited sites Free2
Web host Moving a site that is not built on WordPress One site $99.003
Migration-plugin vendor’s cost guide Its estimate for professional WordPress migration services One project, by complexity $200–$1,0004

None of the three host pages mentions redirects or SEO checks. That leaves no gap while every address stays the same. Once the domain, the HTTPS setting or the permalinks change during the move, the URL work a host move leaves out becomes a separate job.

Rebuilding the site on a new platform

A platform switch recreates the site’s pages in the new CMS instead of copying files across.

Provider type What the price covers Size or unit Published price
WordPress agency Moving a site from Joomla, Drupal, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace or a custom CMS into WordPress One project From $4995
WordPress developer marketplace Any WordPress work, estimated in hours by a vetted developer, plus the marketplace’s fixed service fee Hourly $80–$120 an hour, plus a 17.5% fee6

Both prices are set per project or per hour, not by the number of URLs that change. Ask what each quote assumes about redirects, and who builds and checks the redirect map; the next table prices that work on its own.

The SEO work on changed URLs

The SEO work covers the URLs that change: listing the ones that matter, mapping each one to a page on the new site, and checking the redirects before and after launch. Specialists and solo consultants publish fixed tiers, floors, per-page rates or hourly rates; UK agencies publish floors and fixed audit prices in pounds, and two agency-written guides publish ranges.

Provider type What the price covers Size or unit Published price
Migration SEO specialist Domain change only: internal links, sitemap and robots.txt reviewed, Google Search Console updated Domain change $4997
Migration SEO specialist Platform change: each URL mapped and the redirects reviewed, plus the domain-change items Up to 1,000 pages $9997
Migration SEO specialist The platform-change work on a larger site Up to 5,000 pages $2,4997
Web studio, redirect map only A 301 redirect map priced per page; the rate falls as the page count rises 1–50 pages; 10,001–25,000 pages $2.65 a page; $1.10 a page8
SEO agency, migration offer Pre-migration audit: URL crawl and inventory, redirect map, launch-day checklist One project From $5009
SEO agency, migration offer The SEO side end to end, from that audit to 30 days of post-launch monitoring One project From $2,5009
Productized SEO service A blueprint with a page-by-page redirect map for your developer to implement, plus 90 days of monitoring One project $2,50010
Productized SEO service The same blueprint implemented hands-on: redirects, canonical tags and Search Console setup One project $4,00010
Solo consultant (UK) Technical SEO by the hour; the consultant estimates migration support at 20–40 hours Hourly £70 an hour11
Agency (UK) SEO migration packages labeled for startups, growing SMEs and growing enterprises Three tiers From £500; from £2,000; from £5,00012
Agency (UK) SEO migration consultancy, from planning to post-launch One project From £5,00013
Agency (UK) CMS or domain migration audit One audit £2,50014
Agency (UK) A migration the agency manages in full One project From £8,000 plus VAT15
Agency price guide Small sites: a 301 redirect map, metadata, sitemap updates, limited monitoring Under 100 pages $2,000–$8,00016
Agency price guide Larger sites, then enterprise migrations with longer monitoring By size and complexity $8,000–$20,000; $20,000–$50,000+16
Agency price guide (UK) Technical planning, a redirect map and post-launch monitoring One project £3,000–£15,00017

If your developer or agency is building the new site, the SEO work can be bought on its own: SEO Migration Studio’s SEO-only packages priced by URL count cover the inventory, the redirect map and the launch checks.

Rescue and recovery once problems start

Recovery prices cover the work after a launch followed by a drop in organic search traffic: finding which URLs and changes caused the traffic drop, then fixing them. A rescue price covers stepping into a migration that is already under way.

Provider type What the price covers Size or unit Published price
SEO agency, migration offer Stepping into a migration already under way One project From $8009
SEO agency, migration offer Recovery after rankings dropped following a launch One project From $1,5009
Productized SEO service Ranking-drop audit One audit $3,50010
Agency (UK) Traffic and ranking recovery audit One audit £3,50014
Agency (UK) Migration recovery the agency manages in full One project From £10,000 plus VAT15

Where a provider in these tables publishes a planning price and a recovery price, recovery is the higher one. One UK agency lists its CMS or domain migration audit at £2,500 and its traffic and ranking recovery audit at £3,50014. One productized service sells its migration blueprint at $2,500 and its ranking-drop audit at $3,50010. Two of the five prices above buy an audit, so ask whether the fixes are carried out or only recommended.

SEO Migration Studio prices recovery in two steps, a diagnosis first, then a fixed-price fix, and both prices sit in the last section.

What makes one migration cost more than another

The prices above vary along four lines: whether URLs change, how many there are, which platform the site leaves and who carries out the redirects. Timing and the length of post-launch checks move them too.

Whether the URLs change

Google’s site-move guide separates the two cases. “In the simplest of site moves, you may not need to generate a list of your old URLs”18: a domain change that keeps every path can be redirected with one wildcard rule. “In more complex site moves, you will need to generate a list of old URLs and map them to their new destinations”18. The SEO table follows the same split, with a domain-change tier priced below a platform-change tier at the same specialist.

How many URLs there are

Google processes a move URL by URL: “The move takes place on a per-URL basis.”18 Several tiers in the table are sold by pages, but the redirect map has to cover every URL that earned clicks, links or an index entry, so ask which count a quote is built on. Per-page rates fall as sites grow, as the redirect-map-only row shows.

Which platform the site leaves

Every platform forces its own URL patterns. Those patterns decide how many old URLs one redirect rule can cover and how many need a row of their own in the redirect map. The CMS migration matrix compares what each common platform exports and which URL patterns it forces.

Who carries out the redirects

Implementation can be priced on top of the plan. One productized service charges $2,500 for its blueprint and $4,000 when it also implements the redirects, canonical tags and Search Console setup itself10.

When the work starts, and how long checks run

At one SEO agency the price rises with each stage: a pre-migration audit from $500, a rescue of a migration under way from $800 and recovery after launch from $1,5009. Post-launch monitoring varies too, from 30 days in that agency’s end-to-end offer9 to 90 days in the blueprint offer10. A longer window catches more of the redirects that break after launch week, such as a permalink edit or a deleted page.

A domain change or a redesign in the same launch

A domain change keeps costing after launch. Google’s guide says to “Keep the redirects for as long as possible, generally at least 1 year”18, so the old domain stays registered and its redirects stay live for at least that long. A redesign in the same launch adds new templates and a parity check of titles, headings and structured data; website redesign prices are tracked separately.

What the SEO line item pays for

The SEO line item in a migration quote pays for work on URLs, not on design or copy. A complete line names each of these parts:

  1. URL inventory: every old URL with Search Console clicks or impressions in the last 16 months, links from other sites, an index entry or a place in a current sitemap. It is the count the rest of the line is priced on.
  2. Redirect map: each URL on the inventory mapped to one page on the new site, delivered in the import format of the server or redirect plugin.
  3. Parity check: titles, headings, canonical tags and structured data compared between the old and new templates.
  4. Staging crawl: the redirect map and the new templates checked on the staging site before launch day.
  5. Launch QA: redirects, robots.txt, noindex tags, canonicals, sitemaps and analytics checked on launch day, with a Change of Address filed in Search Console when the domain changes.
  6. Post-launch crawls: the inventory crawled again after launch, with a fix list each time, for a period the quote states.
  7. Fix hours: time to correct what the crawls find, or a written note that your developer does it.

Published offers differ most on the last three parts: some stop at the plan, some carry it out, and their monitoring windows run for different lengths.

How to compare two migration quotes

Two quotes compare only when they price the same job for the same set of URLs. Before weighing the totals, put the same eight questions to each provider:

  1. Which job does the price cover: the file move, the rebuild, the SEO work, or all three?
  2. Is it built on pages, URLs or hours, and on how many?
  3. Which URLs go into the inventory, and do you sign that list before mapping starts?
  4. Who writes the redirect map, who imports it, and in which format?
  5. Which checks run on staging, on launch day and after launch, and for how long?
  6. Who fixes a URL that fails a check, and are those hours in the price?
  7. What is left out: hosting, theme or plugin licenses, copywriting, design?
  8. When is each payment due, and is VAT or sales tax added?

A quote for the move alone and a quote that includes the inventory, the redirect map and launch QA are prices for different jobs, whatever the two totals say.

How these prices were collected, and their limits

Every figure above was read on the page that published it, on 8 October 2026, and copied as published, with its “from”, “plus VAT” and per-page wording kept. The limits matter as much as the figures:

  • Only published prices are included. Providers that quote only after a call are missing, so the tables lean toward providers that publish.
  • US-dollar and pound prices are not converted. The pound prices come from UK providers, and one of them quotes its floors plus VAT.
  • A “from” price is the lowest price a provider lists, not a typical bill.
  • Four rows come from cost guides written by agencies and a migration-plugin vendor. They are estimates, not offers.
  • One agency’s cost page gives two floors for recovery: £8,000 plus VAT for a migration or migration recovery managed in full, and £10,000 plus VAT later on the same page15. The tables show both.
  • Provider names appear only in the source list. Rows are labeled by provider type, and no provider is ranked or set against SEO Migration Studio.

SEO Migration Studio’s prices for the same jobs

SEO Migration Studio prices the same jobs by size for WordPress business sites; each figure below is the first tier of its package.

The job SEO Migration Studio package From
Launch QA and post-launch crawls for a launch your developer runs Launch Check $590 / £470
URL inventory and redirect map for a site your developer builds Migration Map $1,390 / £1,090
The map and the launch checks together SEO Migration Package $1,980 / £1,560
A move into WordPress, or a domain or URL change on WordPress, with the SEO work included URL-Verified Migration $2,990 / £2,390
Finding the cause of a traffic drop after a relaunch Named-Cause Diagnosis $490 / £390
Fixing the causes the diagnosis names Recovery Fix $1,990 / £1,590

The SEO-only packages fit a relaunch that your developer or agency builds; a move into WordPress done end to end puts the rebuild and the SEO work in one price. End-to-end projects also carry the Day-30 URL Check, whose terms sit beside each package on the price list linked above.

If organic search brings in inquiries or sales, price the SEO work before the build is signed, so the redirect map exists before the templates are built. A quote request needs three things: the site address, the launch date and, if you have it, the number of URLs that earned clicks in Search Console.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to migrate a website?

It depends on which job you are paying for. Some hosts move an existing site onto their servers as part of a hosting plan, while rebuilding the site on a new platform, the SEO work on changed URLs and recovery are priced by project, by size or by the hour; the tables above list each published price with its date. SEO Migration Studio’s end-to-end migration into WordPress costs from $2,990 / £2,390.

How much do SEO migration services cost?

Published prices for the SEO work alone range from a fixed fee for a domain change to agency projects priced by site size, and the dataset above gives each one with its source. Compare quotes on the URL count they assume and the parts they include, from the URL inventory to the post-launch crawls. SEO Migration Studio’s SEO-only Launch Check costs from $590 / £470, and the Migration Map from $1,390 / £1,090.

What drives the cost of a website migration?

Whether the URLs change comes first. A move that keeps every path, such as a domain change, can be redirected by a single rule, while a platform switch needs each old URL listed and mapped to a new page. After that, the number of URLs, the platform being left, who implements the redirects and how long the checks run after launch set the price.

What does recovery after a failed migration cost?

More than planning, at each of the three providers in the tables above that publish both a planning or audit price and a recovery price. Recovery work begins by finding which URLs and changes caused the drop, so expect a diagnosis or audit first and the fixes after it, and ask whether the audit price includes them. SEO Migration Studio prices the two steps apart: the Named-Cause Diagnosis from $490 / £390 and the Recovery Fix from $1,990 / £1,590.
